nVidia release driver 550. Tips on installation please

Now that nVidia has released driver version 550 for Linux as a .run file, can we simply ignore the warnings and install it with sh command because it warns that display drivers should only be installed via the distributions Software and Patches app. Have for time being not proceeded with installation.

Whenever I installed untested-by-Canonical drivers from nvidia, it turned out badly.
Stick with the drivers you have, unless there are big issues. If they are working fine, then don't touch them.

New is the enemy of stable. Never forget that.

The graphics-drivers PPA offers the 545 and 550 drivers, but those still have problems on Ubuntu 24.04. I am running the 545 driver on 22.04 and the 535 driver on 24.04 until the 550 hits the normal repositories. I've done only limited testing on the 550, installing to an USB 22.04
boot and things did work. However, I check now and the 550.78 version of the driver is no longer offered, just the 545. Nevertheless, the 550.78 driver is running on that 22.04 install
